How to Build an Ark Book Design

Building the arkwork

With help from Aawen to design, layout, and produce the many illustrations, Martin Crump of Evolution Training and Matthew Theobald of Three Circles have recently published their first book, "How to build an Ark". Whilst not an unusual project on it own, the final production method is a new direction for the company, as it deals with print to order publication.

No longer is it a huge up front expense to produce your own book, printing thousands all at once, without the knowledge of whether it's going to succeed. Now once the design is in place you can send the artwork to the supplier and they will set up the book for a nomial fee, handle all the payments online, produce the required number of books as and when they become needed and deliver the book direct to the purchaser. Finally they will send you your commission automatically.

Jonathan Statham of Aawen Design Studio said, "It was a great project to work on. I had a free hand to design the publication, plus, once I established how the finished artwork was to be generated the process seemed to go seamlessly.

My main objectives where to design an easy to read book which clearly deliniated each section, whilst taking the reader through a narrative journey, presenting the diagrams next to the text to further enforce the message.

I hope this allows many more people who feel they have a book within them, to take that next step to being published."

The book was launched at Ark Project Leaderships seminar at Eden, 'NLP@Work', to a great welcome.
